XLAdapt does the adaptation work between a novel and a screenplay — the story bible, the scene index, what to cut and what to keep — so you start writing from the structure, not from a blank page.
Mark up the book: the passage that is a scene, the line that is dialogue, the moment that is a picture. Then turn each mark into what a screenplay says instead.
Chapter Three
Mara found him in the lamp room, polishing glass that was already clean. The storm had been building since noon, and the windows hummed with it.
“You’ve been up here since noon,” she said.
He did not turn. “The weather’s coming in. Somebody has to keep the light.”
She set the lantern down between them, and for a long time neither of them spoke.
